Not only that, but they took the extra time to shoot and edit a DIY video to share their process. Let that sink in for a moment.
And they left out the most important part! How to identify the tire as a valid !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for this sort of thing.

Sobering comment on Reddit.

As someone who’s actually been in a very bad car accident that resulted from a blown tire, this is a terrible idea. I was going 80mph on the interstate and hit a hole in the road that blew out the driver’s side tire. Barely managed to avoid hitting several other cars and was able to slow down a bit but I still hit a concrete construction barrier at 60mph.
The whole front half of my car was just gone. I woke up to someone banging on my window yelling at me to get out because the engine was leaking. He ended having to drag me out as I couldn’t move. The EMTs told me that without my seatbelt I would have died on impact. Broke my thumb and fractured my wrist from it being caught in the steering wheel, cracked my ankle when it got jammed under the pedal and had a severe concussion from my temple slamming into the window.
The worst injury was actually from the airbag. I’m short so I have to pull the chair up really close to the steering wheel. The airbag hit me with enough force that it put a 6 inch fracture in my sternum. I’ve broken my ribs twice but this was a hundred times worse. Breathing was agony and it took 5 months to heal.
Moral of the story: Don’t drive on bald tires. Its not worth it. The money you save will be nothing compared to the hospital bill after you crash and that’s if you don’t die.

If you can’t afford even the cheapest new tires for your car you should probably rethink the whole car ownership thing.
Or just live in CA or somewhere where it never rains I guess.

Jesuschrist. Exactly nothing they did in this video is remotely correct.

Not only that, but this person incorrectly uses a metal file. Metal files are for one way use, not back a
nd forth, because it can wear down the teeth on the file.

I’ll give ’em this- They at least managed to adopt the concept of using a hot iron with a sharp cutting edge. Compared to the ac tual proper tools used for regrooving, the cotter pin solution was kinda clever...
But the leverage of a soldering iron is hilariously disadvantageous for something like this, even if it had enough wattage to cut faster. And it’s not lending any consistency of depth, either. I might have been more willing to forgive the crappy passenger car tire as being just for demonstration purposes, IF ONLY they had made that clear from the start instead of trying to pass this off as something that any idiot can do to their own tires.

Buy a man new tires, and they’ll last him 3 0,000 miles. Teach a man to refurbish his tires, and they’ll last him the rest of his life.
